June 15th, 2018 - Port Jervis, NY - Mrs. Niosi, Mrs. Bartsch, and Mrs. Menchini’s classes held an Authors’ Party on June 15, 2018. Their publishing project was completed over a couple months. The students started with choosing animals that they were interested in learning more about. They then went on to research that animal over several sessions in school using chrome books. Once they were done with their research, they had to write a report. Next, they had to edit that report before moving on the publishing step. Once they finished writing the final version of the report they created their illustration. Each student featured in the class book had one page of writing and one page of an illustration. Faculty members chose the art for the cover and inside cover. The students did an amazing job and we are so proud of them. The "Authors Party" was to celebrate their hard work and their first officially published piece of writing as authors! click here for photo gallery>

Dr Katchen with patientPort Jervis City School District Offers Free Dental Screenings

For Immediate Release: February 15th, 2018  - Port Jervis, NY - The Port Jervis City School District is partnering with Aesthetic Family Dentistry of Port Jervis NY to promote dental health.

A law passed in 2007 and amended in 2013 requires New York State schools to request dental health certificates of students at the time of entering school and in grades K, 2, 4, 7, and 10. In an effort to promote and ensure good dental hygiene, the Port Jervis City School District is partnering with Aesthetic Family Dentistry of Port Jervis NY, to offer free health screenings at school – at no cost to families.

Forms for the free screenings have been mailed home to parents. If parents choose this free dental health examination to be done at school by a dentist from Aesthetic Family Dentistry, they will be provided with the findings from the screening, as well as any recommendation the dentist offers. Families can then follow up with Aesthetic Family Dentistry or any dentist of their choice.

Parents have also received forms in the mail to take to their own dentist if families wish not to take advantage of the free screening in school. A list of dental health practices, dentists, and registered dental hygienist that provide free or reduced cost dental assessments are available at your child’s nurse’s office.

The Port Jervis City School District is excited to offer these dental health screenings and hope families will take advantage of this free and convenient service.
